Dr. Ananya Chatterjea, artistic director, Ananya Dance Theatre, will teach and lecture in London for the 2016 Odissi Intensive Summer School of Kingston University’s Dance Department, July 17-19.
Chatterjea’s lecture, “Odissi Journeys: Feminist histories and personal navigations,” will be delivered at the John Galsworthy Building on the Kingston campus, Sunday, July 17, 5pm-7pm.
Her two master classes, “Creating a contemporary language from Odissi,” will be conducted Monday and Tuesday, July 18 and 19, 10am-1pm, at the Surrey Club, Kingston Dance Department. The classes will focus on Yorchha™, the contemporary Indian American dance language Chatterjea has developed that draws on classical Odissi, the martial art Chhau, and vinyasa Yoga.
The seven-day Odissi Intensive Summer School is led by Monica Singh, a Visharad in Odissi dance from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi.
