Seasons

No Downtime!! April 1-3, 2000, Barker Performance Center, Minneapolis.

This season featured repertoire and followed performances Tedd Mann Concert Hall for the opening and closing ceremonies of the National Teleconference of Women in Higher Education, a high-profile event where Ananya Dance Theatre was the only featured dance company.   The opening performance featured two pieces danced to live poetry reading by Sonia Sanchez, besides other pieces, and the conference provided an excellent opportunity to introduce the company to audiences both local and national.

A Wife's Letter , September 12-16, 2001, Barker Performance Space, Minneapolis. Inspired by a suicide note written by a young woman, this evening-length piece, about the journeys of women to find spaces within themselves, inaugurated what became the characteristic process of the company, brining together art-making with social change work. This piece earned Chatterjea the honor of being named an "Artist of the year" in the City Pages .

Dancing from Shadows , April 12-13, 2003, Intermedia Arts Center, Minneapolis. This season featured recent works created by Chatterjea during the Bush Fellowship period, including a collaborative piece with Boston based choreographer-performer Thomas DeFrantz and Boston-based composer-musician Akili Jamal Haynes, Encounters .

Bandh: A meditation on dream, June 9-12, 2005, Southern Theatre, Minneapolis. Created through rich collaborative processes involving international artists and 25 dancers from local communities of color, Bandh marked the culmination of a 14-month long process where training in dance intersected with community-building and anti-violence training.

Duurbaar: Journeys into horizon , scheduled for September 14-17,2006, Southern Theatre, Minneapolis.   This is planned as an epic piece exploring the themes of femininity and wetness--that which enables us to be ourselves fully. Like Bandh , Duurbaar is planned as a piece with global and local collaborations.
