An important programmatic objective for Ananya Dance Theatre is working collaborations collaboratively with artists of color in the U.S. and artists from the Third World.   Projects include collaborations with Thomas De Frantz and Akili Jamal Haynes  to create Encounters (premiered in 2003 at the Habitat Center in Delhi, India); a collaboration with playwright and performance artist Laurie Carlos and director  Daniel Alexander Jones to create Marion's Terrible Time of Joy (premiered in October 2003 at the Playwrights' Center, produced by 3 Legged Race); a collaboration with Toronto-based choreographer Hari Krishnan to create Difference| Desire (premiered in Toronto in March 2004, at the Harborfront Theater, produced by DanceWorks, Canada).
