Ananya Dance Theatre and the Shawngram Institute for Performance & Social Justice are delighted to present Body/Mind/Funk/Time: A master class with dance theater artist Michael Sakamoto.
Butoh and hip-hop performance each grew out of conditions of socio-economic crisis in the post-World War Two era in Japan and America. Working from elements inspired by both dance practices, Michael Sakamoto leads students through a series of movement and image exercises in order to demonstrate his unique blend of intercultural embodiment and contemporary dance theater. Come ready to sweat as well as challenge your assumptions about identity. $35
