In this Audience Empowerment Workshop, ADT’s dancers demonstrate excerpts from “Shaatranga,” our new work about women weaving global connections, alternated with conversation about what it all might mean. The opportunity for attendees to participate with the dancers in making movement together is always a highlight of this annual event!

🔹Ananya Dance Theatre is a contemporary Indian dance company, comprised of women artists of color, with roots in the traditions of East Bengal and based in Saint Paul.
🔹The company’s tradition-based performance style is called Yorchha, a contemporary reworking of Classical Odissi, Vinyasa Yoga, and the martial art Chhau.
🔹The company’s artistic process is an active, creative force called Shawngram – drawn from the Bangla word for resistance. You can find the company at its new home, the Shawngram Institute for Performance & Social Justice, at 1197 University Avenue in Saint Paul.
